Artist's Commentary

I bet you didn't see that plotline coming!
After the first few episodes of this new comic series, it looks like
Newt and John will finally Take on the Universe!

I imagine you're thinking, the 'Infinity Fighter' looks familiar. Well, in all my years in this animation business, I have been wanting to do a 'Star Wars' parody like so many people have done before... so there will be some similar 'themes' in future episodes, but you won't be seeing any of the movie characters. It also seems fitting to start this continuing story on 'Episode IV' of Newt and John... the same episode number of the Original Star Wars film.

The 'Infinity Fighter' is something I designed over 6 years ago... in Flash software. I hate to admit it, but it was a part of an all flash-animated Star Wars Parody that I never completed. For the longest time, I had some screenshots on my 'sketchbook' website, saying "Coming Soon...", but alas, it never did. For this comic, I wanted John to create this cool looking spaceship, so I took the original design I did all those years ago, and improved the heck out of it. It's still made entirely in Flash...just like all the backgrounds and characters in Newt and John. You'll see more views of this vehicle in the next episodes, where you'll see there are many differences from the ship in the movie, but just enough to give it a Star Wars feel. I debated whether to give it the double-wings with this new version, but then, it would look more like a seagull, than an 'infinity symbol'.

So what will happen when Newt and John take on the evil space aliens? Who will get the last can of McFizz? Come back for the next episode on Monday!
